Here's what to know about how to buy classic Chanel bags, including which ones are most likely to appreciate in value.
Chanel Bags: How to Buy Them and Which Style to Choose
It goes without saying that Chanel's Classic Flap Bag is one of fashion's most iconic styles. Soon after Karl Lagerfeld joined the label in the mid-1980's, the purse made its debut. Designed with the modern woman in mind, the Classic Flap featured a more recognizable "CC" turn-lock closure and leather woven straps. Its popularity was nearly instantaneous, but along with the fame came counterfeiting concerns. In attempt to limit counterfeits, Chanel first began manufacturing handbags and accessories with serial number stickers in 1986. Used as a benchmark of authenticity, these serial numbers are attached to the interiors of Chanel pieces and indicate when a piece was manufactured. Each of these numbers is unique to the bag in which it's found, and no number is repeated. NOTE: Serial numbers will match the authenticity card, however they will not be able to allow you to determine the style/model of the bag.

The epitome of an iconic fashion accessory, the Chanel Classic Flap is about as symbolic as it gets when it comes to notable designer arm candy. The Chanel Classic Flap bag is a historic design masterpiece that has transformed the way women wear handbags to this day. Holding mega influence throughout the world, this is the bag of dreams on the top of every bagaholic’s wishlist, all stitched into one finely quilted symbol of fashion significance. Introduced to the fashion scene by Coco Chanel in 1955 as the 2.55 flap bag, there have been several variations, but each boasts a rectangular shape, made of the finest quilted leather, adorned with an all-chain strap and mademoiselle lock. The inspiration of the exterior of this iconic design derives from Gabrielle Chanel’s fondness of equestrian sports and her love of jockey jackets and saddle blankets
