Karl Lagerfeld showed his Chanel cruise 2014 collection in Singapore this week, and while the clothes—which included lots of pale hues and relaxed shapes—looked very laid-back and breezy, the details did not. The models wore winged turquoise eyeliner, and their hair was slicked back into tough-looking faux-hawks, and the accessories were super punk. Maybe Lagerfeld was inspired by the Costume Institute's current "Chaos to Couture" exhibit? Too bad some of the attendees at Monday's Met Gala were not! Regardless, I can't get over how good all the Chanel jewelry looked—especially the giant chain chokers and thick cuffs. Everything was piled on two-by-two, including the bracelets, which everyone wore on both wrists a la Wonder Woman. Coco Chanel used to wear them this way too, actually. Adding to the punk vibe: ear adornments. There were dangling chains earrings, rows of hoops, and big ear cuffs. We saw the latter on a few runways last season, and some of the more adventurous people wore them at the Met Gala this week, so I'm wondering if this is a trend that's going to stick around. Of course, you can't have a Chanel show without tons of pearls, and Lagerfeld showed plenty of those.
