RARE-This is a matted 1938 French fashion print showcasing a design by the iconic Chanel. It is rare to find such an image with the passage of time. It originally appeared in a haute couture French magazine of the time. It is NOT a recent reproduction print. The design is for an ensemble for the new spring collection. It features a wide lapel vested jacket with a cinched waisted design. Note the hat and floral shoulder accoutrement! The print was illustrated and signed by Carl Erickson, (known as “Eric”) who dominated the world of fashion illustration for most of the 20th century. Today he is best known for his work for French Vogue magazine and Coty Cosmetics. His works appear in the fashion archives of international museums. Eric's drawings are auctioned at leading auction houses worldwide and his work is highly collectible and for good reason. His illustrations are painterly and impressionistic in style. His works were often textural with a powdery quality. They are bold, "alive" and elegant. His style is recognizable! This image is in excellent condition with no indication of age or discoloration. It is 9 x 11.25 inches in size and comes in a neutral tone custom mat that is ready for a 16 x 20 inch standard frame. Please allow time for custom matting..
